I am currently working on a contemporary garden design with a strong architectural feel in Shepherds Bush, west London. The clients bought a piece of land, knocked down the existing house and are in the process of building a Passivhaus house. Passivhaus is the fastest growing energy performance standard , which strives to limit the energy a building uses by means of recirculating heat and minimising heat transfer to and from the building.
My brief has been to design a low maintenance contemporary garden with new entrance gates and green roof terraces.
The above image shows a 4 metre long sliding gate made from steel, hardwood and marine ply. The intricate details are to be cut using CNC routing technology.
This image shows the garden from the other side of the gate when in open position. The foreground surface is Grasscrete planted with shade tolerant grass seed..
Here again you can see some more of the intricate wood detailing that appears in the main gate.
